Red Tape Delays Occupancy of Affordable Housing in New York City
A new report reveals that affordable housing units in New York City are sitting vacant for extended periods due to bureaucratic red tape. The report, released by Enterprise Community Partners, shows that the median time between the completion of affordable units and tenant move-in is 439 days, significantly longer than the national median. The delays are attributed to complex administrative processes and a lack of streamlined systems. These issues leave many low-income residents in unstable housing situations while units remain unoccupied.
