Florida Gulf Coast Cities Break Warm Minimum Temperature Records
Several cities along Florida's Gulf Coast, including Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota, recorded their warmest overnight low temperatures on record, with lows of 82°F (28°C). This shattered the previous record of 79°F (26°C) at each location. According to WFLA-TV meteorologist Jeff Berardelli, the unusually warm conditions were influenced by westerly winds from a warmer-than-usual Gulf of Mexico. Berardelli noted that approximately two-thirds of record-warm overnight lows in the region have occurred since 2000, despite Tampa's weather records dating back to 1890. This trend is being attributed to climate change. Additionally, Key West tied its all-time May temperature record multiple times last month, further highlighting the persistence of warm conditions across the state.
