Study Suggests Sedentary Individuals May Benefit from Reduced Protein Intake
A recent study published in the Cell Press Blue journal suggests that many sedentary individuals may be consuming more protein than necessary, potentially leading to negative health consequences. The research, led by Dudley Lamming from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, reviewed over 350 papers and found that reducing protein intake could lead to weight loss, reduced fat mass, and improved fasting blood sugar levels. The study highlights that while protein is beneficial for muscle growth and exercise response in active individuals, excessive consumption among sedentary people could increase the risk of obesity, inflammation, and age-related diseases. The findings suggest a need to personalize protein recommendations based on physical activity levels.
