Latin American Cities Achieve Milestone with 10,000 Electric Buses in Operation
Latin American cities have reached a significant milestone in sustainable urban mobility, with 10,000 electric buses now operational across the region. This achievement, confirmed by C40 Cities and the International Council on Clean Transportation, marks a pivotal moment in the decarbonization of public transport. The initiative involves over 80 cities in 13 countries, collectively preventing the emission of over 10 million tonnes of CO2 annually. São Paulo, with Brazil's largest electric bus fleet, exemplifies this transition, supported by a R$6.5 billion investment program. The transition is further aided by the ZEBRA Alliance and the Brazil Mutirão program, which provide technical assistance for financial modeling and infrastructure development.
