British Company Nears 'Real-Life Invisibility Cloak' with Potential Military Applications
A British company, Invisibility Shield Co., founded by Tristan Thompson, claims to be close to developing a real-life invisibility cloak, similar to the one depicted in Harry Potter. The London-based firm has unveiled a new range of portable barriers that utilize precision-engineered lens arrays to diffuse light reflected from the subject behind them, effectively hiding a person or object from view. While not yet as flexible as fabric, the material can be joined in sheets to wrap around and conceal items. The company is also exploring applications where the material, which can be supplied with an adhesive backing, could be used to hide unsightly objects in landscapes, such as cell phone towers, and is currently conducting preliminary tests for this purpose. The new range includes various sizes, culminating in a 180 by 120cm 'Megashield,' described as the largest commercially available invisibility shield.
