Amadeus and UN Tourism Report Highlights Growth in Central and South American Travel
A recent report by Amadeus, in collaboration with UN Tourism, reveals significant growth in travel interest and activity in Central and South America. The report, covering the period from May 2025 to April 2026, indicates that Central America experienced the highest growth in travel at 7.5%, followed by South America at 5.5%. In contrast, North America saw a slight decline of 0.1%, and the Caribbean experienced a contraction of 2.5%. The report highlights a shift in traveler interest towards less traditional destinations, with Guatemala, Belize, and El Salvador showing the strongest increases in travel search interest. Despite the rise in search interest, actual bookings in Central America have not yet matched this growth, except for Belize and Honduras, which saw a 1% increase each. The report also notes rising interest from Asian markets, particularly Japan and the Philippines, with significant increases in travel to Central and South America.
