UK and Ireland's Power Cable Rerouted to Preserve Dobby's Memorial
A $580 million undersea power cable project, known as the Greenlink interconnector, has been rerouted to avoid disturbing a beach memorial dedicated to Dobby the house-elf from the 'Harry Potter' series. The cable, which connects the UK's National Grid to Ireland, was initially planned to pass through Freshwater West beach in Wales, where the memorial is located. Following public outcry from 'Harry Potter' fans, the project manager, Etchea Energy, decided to alter the cable's route. The memorial, which attracts tourists from around the world, is significant for local tourism, contributing substantially to the economy of Pembrokeshire, Wales.
