U.S. Job Market Sees Higher Layoffs in Key Sectors Despite Low Unemployment
Recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that while the national unemployment rate remains low at 4.3%, certain sectors are experiencing higher layoff rates. Construction, transportation, warehousing, utilities, accommodation, food services, and professional business services are among the industries with elevated layoffs. The construction sector, influenced by cyclical and seasonal changes, recorded a layoff rate of 1.5%, above the national average. Economic conditions, such as higher borrowing costs and rising material prices, are adding pressure to the industry.
