Corpus Christi Leaders Consider Water Use Reduction Amid Crisis
Corpus Christi city leaders are deliberating a proposal to mandate a 25% reduction in water usage for residents, businesses, and industries due to an ongoing drought. The city council is set to vote on this water curtailment plan, which is a response to the city's main reservoirs, Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon Reservoir, dropping to just 8% of their capacity. The proposal includes surcharges for exceeding set water usage limits, with residential customers facing additional charges for usage beyond 7,000 gallons per month. Industrial users can opt into a drought surcharge exemption program, which has already generated significant funds for water-related projects. The city is also considering exemptions for essential services and larger households.
