Venezuelan Attorney Leyda Schmid Joins U.S. Legal Profession Amid Political Turmoil
Leyda Guadalupe Schmid, a Venezuelan attorney, has successfully transitioned into the U.S. legal profession after fleeing political instability in Venezuela. Schmid, who earned her law degree in 2018 from Universidad Católica del Táchira, faced worsening conditions in her home country, prompting her to seek safety in the United States. Alongside her husband, Konrad Schmid, she pursued further legal education at Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, where they both completed an LL.M. program. This education enabled them to qualify for the bar exam, which they passed in 2025. Now, both are associates at Hurst Limontes, a personal injury law firm in Indianapolis, where they focus on serving the Hispanic community.
