Aby Har-Even's Legacy in Space and Tragic Death in Acre Riots
Aby Har-Even, a prominent figure in Israel's space program, was tragically killed during riots in Acre in 2021. Har-Even, who played a pivotal role in launching Israel into space, was staying at the Efendi Hotel when it was set on fire by rioters. Despite being evacuated, he was trapped in the flames while descending the stairs, adhering to safety protocols. He was hospitalized for three weeks before succumbing to his injuries. Har-Even's contributions to Israel's space capabilities were significant, including leading the development of the Shavit launch rocket and heading the Israel Space Agency. His death was a result of the violent riots that erupted during the IDF's Operation Guardian of the Walls.
