Abby and Brittany Hensel, Conjoined Twins, Maintain Private Professional Lives After Earning Education Degrees
Abby and Brittany Hensel, dicephalic parapagus conjoined twins born in Minnesota in 1990, have largely remained out of the public eye in their professional lives despite their unique physiological condition. They are conjoined at the torso, each possessing a separate head, spine, and set of arms, while sharing a circulatory system, lungs, stomach, and spinal cord below the neck. Each twin has a distinct brain, cognitive functions, personalities, and sensory perceptions, controlling one side of their shared body. Their physical coordination, developed since childhood, allows them to navigate daily life, including walking and performing tasks requiring collaboration. Both twins graduated from high school and Bethel University with bachelor's degrees in education, with a career goal of becoming elementary school teachers.
