Charlotte Enforces Water Restrictions Amid Statewide Drought
Charlotte, North Carolina, continues to enforce mandatory water restrictions as the region grapples with a persistent drought. The restrictions, implemented on May 15, aim to reduce water usage by 5% to 10%, a target the city has already exceeded. Prohibited activities include filling swimming pools and operating ornamental fountains. Despite recent above-average rainfall, the drought conditions remain severe, necessitating ongoing conservation efforts. Charlotte Water has issued 84 violations for non-compliance, with fines starting at $100. Exceptions have been granted in specific cases, such as health and safety concerns or critical business operations.
