Unseasonal Rains Impact Indian Agriculture, Affecting Wheat Crops
Unseasonal rains and hailstorms have severely impacted Indian agriculture, particularly affecting 2.49 lakh hectares of rabi crops, with wheat being the hardest hit. According to Devdiscourse, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the damage ahead of the 'Unnat Krishi Mela' in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported heavy rains from April 2-8, exacerbated by hailstorms across several states. Governmental departments are actively assessing the damage and coordinating with affected states to provide support to farmers. Efforts include consultations with regional agriculture ministers and plans for future agricultural resilience, such as nutrient subsidies and outreach programs.
