OpenAI Accused of Negligence in Tumbler Ridge Shooting Lawsuits
OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman are facing a series of lawsuits filed by families of victims from the Tumbler Ridge school shooting in Canada. The lawsuits allege that OpenAI failed to report the shooter's violent interactions with ChatGPT to law enforcement, despite internal warnings. The shooter, who killed eight people, had been flagged by OpenAI's safety team months before the attack. The lawsuits claim that OpenAI's decision to prioritize user privacy and business interests over public safety contributed to the tragedy.
