NOAA Predicts Below-Normal 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, Easing Concerns for Florida
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has updated its forecast for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, predicting a 75% chance of below-normal activity. This is an increase from the earlier prediction of a 55% chance. The season, which runs from June 1 to November 30, typically peaks in early September. So far, two named storms, Arthur and Bertha, have formed in the Gulf and impacted Louisiana. NOAA's updated forecast anticipates 7-13 named storms, 2-6 hurricanes, and 0-2 major hurricanes. This is below the average of 14 named storms, seven hurricanes, and three major hurricanes. NOAA emphasizes the importance of preparation, as inland rainfall from tropical storms can cause significant damage.
