NYC DOT Initiates Cycling Access Upgrades for Brooklyn Bridge, Supported by Representative Velázquez
The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) has commenced significant upgrades to cycling access for the Brooklyn Bridge, coinciding with the start of 'Biketober.' This initiative focuses on improving bike lanes on Boerum Place and Adams Street, which serve as critical connections to the Brooklyn Bridge. The project aims to convert existing standard bike lanes into two-way protected paths, addressing issues like illegal parking that frequently obstruct current lanes. Representative Nydia M. Velázquez has voiced strong support for these upgrades, emphasizing the need for safe and reliable connections for the more than 30,000 cyclists who cross the East River bridges daily. The NYC DOT also announced various community events for Biketober, including free helmet and bike light giveaways, safety education classes, and free learn-to-ride lessons across the five boroughs.
