Japan Faces Record Heatwave, Raising Concerns Over Economic Impact
Japan is experiencing a record-breaking heatwave, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius or higher for five consecutive days. This marks the longest streak of such extreme temperatures since records began in 2011. The Japan Meteorological Agency has introduced a new category, 'brutally hot day,' to describe these conditions. The heat has led to thousands of hospitalizations due to heatstroke, prompting authorities to issue alerts across most prefectures west of the Kanto region. Residents are advised to stay in air-conditioned environments, avoid unnecessary outings, and stay hydrated, with particular attention to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and young children.
