Miami City Halts Legal Fee Payments for Joe Carollo Amid Ongoing Lawsuit
The city of Miami has ceased paying legal fees for former District 3 city commissioner Joe Carollo, leaving him without legal representation in a lawsuit filed by QBE Specialty Insurance Company. The lawsuit, initiated in 2024, seeks to recover millions in legal fees incurred by defending Carollo in multiple lawsuits related to his alleged misconduct. Carollo's legal team from Rivero Mestre, LLP, withdrew after the city stopped covering his legal expenses, citing a failure to fulfill financial obligations. This development is part of a broader legal battle involving Carollo, who was previously ordered to pay $63.5 million to businessmen Bill Fuller and Martin Pinilla. The judgment was based on allegations that Carollo used city resources to retaliate against them for supporting his political opponent in 2017.
