Department of Veterans Affairs to Honor Revolutionary War Veterans Nationwide
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is set to hold ceremonies at 16 locations across the United States to honor 49 veterans of the American Revolutionary War. These events are scheduled for Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 10 a.m. local time, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on August 2, 1776. The ceremonies will take place at VA national cemeteries and VA-managed soldiers lots within private cemeteries in 15 states. The VA Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs, Sam Brown, emphasized the enduring inspiration drawn from the service, sacrifice, and patriotism of these veterans, who played a crucial role in establishing the United States. The Revolutionary War, which began in 1775 and concluded in 1783, was a pivotal conflict in which the American colonies sought independence from British rule.
