I2U2 Grouping Strengthens Strategic Connectivity in Indo-Mediterranean Region
The Indo-Abrahamic alliance, known as the I2U2 grouping, is enhancing strategic connectivity in the Indo-Mediterranean region. This alliance, which includes India, Israel, the UAE, and the US, aims to foster cooperation in various sectors such as technology and infrastructure. The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) is a key initiative under this alliance, linking India to Europe through the Arabian Peninsula and the eastern Mediterranean. Announced at the G20 Summit in New Delhi in September 2023, IMEC focuses on integrating energy grids, hydrogen networks, railways, maritime routes, and digital corridors. The digital pillar of IMEC is particularly significant, with plans to deploy high-speed fiber-optic cables and integrate cloud infrastructure to facilitate digital trade. The Gulf states, especially Saudi Arabia and the UAE, are investing heavily in data centers and AI-driven applications, positioning themselves as global exporters of computing power.
