Study Identifies Key Midlife Factors to Delay Dementia by Over a Decade
A study conducted by researchers at NYU Langone Health has identified three key factors in midlife that can significantly delay the onset of dementia. The study, published in the journal Neurology, highlights maintaining normal blood pressure, avoiding type 2 diabetes, and not smoking between the ages of 45 and 65 as crucial for extending life without dementia by nearly 13 years. The research analyzed data from the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study, tracking over 12,000 participants for several decades. The findings suggest that individuals who manage these risk factors can enjoy significantly longer periods without dementia compared to those who do not.
