South Carolina Prepares for First New Agriculture Commissioner in Two Decades
South Carolina is set to elect a new agriculture commissioner for the first time in over 20 years, following the retirement of longtime commissioner Hugh Weathers. A forum hosted by the South Carolina Farm Bureau Women's Leadership Committee will feature most of the candidates, providing them an opportunity to present their platforms. The candidates include DeShawn Blanding (Democratic), Jeremy Cannon (Republican), Danny Ford (Republican), Chris Nellums (United Citizens), Michael Sullens (Libertarian), and Fred West (Republican). Notably absent from the forum is Cody Simpson, a Republican endorsed by President Trump and Governor Henry McMaster.
