Supreme Court Supports Anti-Abortion Centers in New Jersey Subpoena Case
The U.S. Supreme Court has unanimously ruled in favor of First Choice Women’s Resource Centers, an anti-abortion organization in New Jersey, allowing it to challenge a state subpoena in federal court. The subpoena, issued by the New Jersey Attorney General, sought information on the organization's donors and doctors as part of an investigation into whether First Choice engaged in deceptive practices by misleading clients about the services offered, particularly regarding abortion. The Supreme Court's decision revives a federal lawsuit that had been dismissed by a lower court, which had ruled that the lawsuit was premature due to ongoing state court proceedings. First Choice, represented by the Alliance Defending Freedom, argued that the subpoena violated its First Amendment rights.
