UMass Amherst Launches $120 Million Initiative to Address Global Food System Challenges
UMass Amherst is initiating a significant $120 million effort, the 'Future of Food Initiative,' to tackle pressing global food system issues. These challenges include climate change, sustainability, food safety, and the demands of a growing global population projected to reach 10 billion by 2050. The initiative will establish a new 36,000 square foot research facility, the Paul and Diane Manning Food Innovation Hub, and a multidisciplinary collaborative research center called the Center for the Future of Food (CFF). Funding for this ambitious project will come from four $30 million tranches, contributed by generous donors Paul and Diane Manning through their family foundation, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, UMass Amherst, and an additional $30 million to be raised by the UMass Amherst Foundation.
