Congress Opposes Trump's Proposed NASA Budget Cuts Amid Space Competition Concerns
Congress has expressed strong opposition to President Trump's proposed budget cuts for NASA, which include a 23% reduction in the agency's total budget and a 47% cut in science funding. During a House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology hearing, representatives from both parties voiced concerns about the impact of these cuts on U.S. space leadership, particularly in the face of growing competition from China. NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman defended the cuts, arguing that the agency can achieve more with less by focusing on mission priorities. However, Congress is expected to reject the proposed budget, as it did in the previous fiscal year.
