Hawaii Faces Severe Weather Impacts from Kona Lows
Hawaii has recently experienced significant weather disruptions due to back-to-back Kona lows, which have caused extensive damage to local agriculture. According to Hawaii Public Radio, these storms have resulted in millions of dollars in losses for farms across the state. The mental toll on farmers is also considerable, as highlighted by Thao Le, a professor at the UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience. In March, certain areas received rainfall amounts that were 3,000% above normal, as reported by the Hawaii Climate Data Portal. This extreme weather pattern has prompted local researchers to study the relationship between drought and heavy rainfall events.
