Comcast Reaches $117.5 Million Settlement Over Data Breach Affecting Millions
Comcast has agreed to a $117.5 million settlement following a class action lawsuit related to a data breach in October 2023 that exposed personal information of millions of Xfinity customers. The breach involved the theft of usernames, passwords, and partial Social Security numbers. While Comcast denies any wrongdoing, the settlement will compensate approximately 36 million affected customers. The settlement includes provisions for identity defense services and cash payments, with a final approval hearing scheduled for July 7. Customers must file claims by August 14 to receive compensation, which could be up to $10,000 for documented losses or a $50 alternative cash payment.
