Colorado Springs Hosts Native Plant Sale Amid Water Shortage Concerns
Colorado Springs is hosting a native plant sale from July 23 to July 25, organized by the city's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services. The sale aims to promote the use of native plant species that require less water and are more drought-tolerant compared to non-native species. This initiative comes as the city faces a Water Shortage Preparation stage due to historically low snowpack levels. Residents are encouraged to adhere to 'Water Wise Rules,' which limit lawn watering to three days a week and prohibit watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Violations of these rules may result in a $100 penalty. The sale is part of broader efforts to support native species and pollinator habitats, backed by recent state legislation.
