Lawmakers Demand Accountability from ICE and GEO Group Over Detention Center Violations
Congresswoman Summer Lee, along with Representatives Madeleine Dean and Chris Deluzio, has demanded answers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the GEO Group regarding violations at the Moshannon Valley Detention Center in Pennsylvania. The lawmakers criticized GEO's failure to meet federal standards for staffing and medical care, as well as obstructing congressional oversight. They highlighted past incidents, including deaths at the facility, and emphasized the systemic issues stemming from GEO's for-profit model. The lawmakers are seeking transparency and accountability, questioning the compliance with federal contracts and the involvement of former ICE and DHS officials with GEO.
