Senator Tim Kaine Advocates for Affordable Housing Initiatives in Virginia
Senator Tim Kaine recently participated in the unveiling of a prototype house for Micah Ecumenical Ministries' Jeremiah Community in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This project aims to create a neighborhood of small homes with a community center and support services for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. Kaine praised the initiative as an innovative solution to the growing need for affordable housing, which he identified as a top-three issue across Virginia. The Jeremiah Community has raised over $12 million of the $17.5 million needed for its first phase, including $2.9 million in congressionally-directed spending secured by Senators Kaine and Mark Warner. Kaine also highlighted a similar project by his home parish, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Richmond, which is building 56 affordable rental units.
