UNDP Supports Community Policing and Women's Empowerment in South Sudan
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with funding from the United Nations Secretary-General's Peacebuilding Fund (PBF), is supporting community policing initiatives in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, South Sudan. This effort, part of the 'Women in South Sudan's Security Sector: A Path to Inclusive and Transformative Leadership' project, involves establishing Police Community Relations Committees (PCRCs). These committees, comprising women, men, and police officers, work to identify and address local security concerns, build trust between communities and law enforcement, and promote peaceful dispute resolution. PCRC members receive training and mentorship to coordinate community policing activities, respond to incidents, and refer cases such as petty theft and family disputes to appropriate authorities.
