Chris Sweda's Photojournalism Contributes to Pulitzer-Winning Tribune Project
Columbia College alum and Chicago Tribune photojournalist Chris Sweda played a key role in the Tribune's Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of Operation Midway Blitz. This investigative project documented federal immigration enforcement in Chicago, focusing on the arrest of immigrants with criminal records. Sweda's contributions included capturing the emotional reunification of Ruben Torres Maldonado with his family after his release from detention. The project, which involved around 75 staff members, was recognized for its impactful storytelling and comprehensive coverage of a significant social issue.
