TikTok CEO Predicts Major AI-Driven Scientific Breakthroughs Within Three Years
Shou Zi Chew, CEO of TikTok, anticipates significant scientific breakthroughs driven by artificial intelligence within the next three years, impacting fields such as physics, biotech, chemistry, and material science. Chew expressed this optimism at the DBS Asia Future Forward Conference in Singapore. His remarks come as ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, expands its AI research beyond consumer applications. For instance, in April, ByteDance's Seed research team introduced Protenix-v2, an AI model designed for biomolecular structure prediction and design, with potential applications in drug discovery. Chew emphasized that while the immediate impact of AI might be overestimated, its long-term potential is likely underestimated. He also highlighted the accelerating pace of technological development, particularly in scientific research, and noted that AI is increasingly reshaping TikTok's operations, from content creation and recommendations to search and moderation.
