OXFAM Report Highlights Worsening U.S. Inequality and Criticizes Trump Administration Policies
A recent report by OXFAM, a global confederation of non-governmental organizations, asserts that the United States is experiencing an 'inequality emergency.' The report, titled 'UNEQUAL: The rise of a new American oligarchy and the change we need,' indicates a declining affordability future for most U.S. families and young individuals. It highlights that the U.S. has become 'more unequal than most other wealthy countries,' with homelessness at record levels and significant increases in wealth and income inequality. Compared to ten other industrialized nations, the U.S. reportedly has the highest rate of relative poverty, the second-highest rate of child poverty and infant mortality, and the second-lowest life expectancy. The report also points to a growing disparity between productivity and workers' pay over the past 45 years, with productivity increasing by 92.4% while pay rose by only 33.6% since 1979.
