Governor Hochul Opens New Learn-to-Swim Facility at Jones Beach, Enhancing Public Access
Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the opening of a new learn-to-swim pool and sprayground at the historic East Bathhouse in Jones Beach State Park. This $100 million project is part of the NY SWIMS initiative, aimed at providing affordable and safe swimming opportunities for families. The facility, closed since 2009, has been restored and modernized to include eco-friendly features such as geothermal wells and solar panels. The project was managed by the Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation in collaboration with the Office of General Services. The initiative is designed to make swimming accessible to all families, promoting safety and enjoyment during the summer months.
