Severe Storms Impact Midwest States with Heavy Rain and Tornadoes
A dynamic weather pattern is affecting the Midwest, combining moist air with a strong jet stream to create severe thunderstorms across the central United States and Great Lakes. According to the Insurance Journal, the National Weather Service reported over 400 instances of hail, winds exceeding 60 mph (96.5 kph), and tornadoes. The storm system stretched from central Texas to Iowa and southern Wisconsin, moving eastward across Michigan, Illinois, northern Indiana, and Ohio, heading towards Pennsylvania and New York. Heavy rainfall has led to flooding, particularly in Wisconsin, where streets were inundated, and highways closed. Michigan experienced significant damage, including power outages and structural damage to buildings.
