Florida Files Lawsuit Against OpenAI and Sam Altman for Alleged Safety Lapses
Florida has initiated a lawsuit against OpenAI and its CEO, Sam Altman, accusing them of failing to warn users about the potential dangers of ChatGPT. The lawsuit, filed in state court, claims that OpenAI marketed ChatGPT as a safe and reliable tool, even for children, despite knowing the risks. The complaint alleges that ChatGPT has been used to aid mass shooters, encourage suicides, and collect data from minors without adequate parental oversight. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier stated that the company prioritized winning the AI arms race over user safety. OpenAI has responded by highlighting its safety measures and denying responsibility for the incidents.
