Augusta Initiates Construction on Riverwatch Trail and Bridge to Enhance Recreation
Construction has commenced on the Village at Riverwatch Trailhead and Pedestrian Bridge in Augusta. This project aims to provide enhanced access across the Augusta Canal, linking to nearby shopping and dining areas. The development includes features such as a kayak launch, fishing areas, and improved recreational access. Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson, along with state Rep. Mark Newton and other local leaders, participated in the groundbreaking ceremony. The project is supported by a $3 million grant from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Fund, supplemented by $500,000 in seed money. The initiative is part of a broader effort to preserve green spaces and expand outdoor recreation in Georgia.
