Google Earth AI Deepfake Tool Shut Down After One Day Due to Policy Violations
Google has discontinued a new feature in Google Earth that allowed users to edit satellite images using AI-generated deepfakes. The tool, which was launched and then quickly retracted, enabled users to create altered images of real-world locations through text prompts. Concerns arose when users generated images depicting sensitive scenarios, such as refugees near borders and bomb craters, which violated Google's policies. Despite the inclusion of digital watermarks to indicate AI generation, the potential for misuse led Google to withdraw the feature while it works on implementing stronger safeguards.
