Guyana and U.S. Finalize Migration Cooperation Framework for Temporary Relocation of Third-Country Nationals
Guyana and the United States have concluded a migration cooperation framework that will allow Guyana to temporarily receive a limited, vetted number of skilled and non-criminal individuals from the U.S. These individuals will arrive through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Assisted Voluntary Return Programme. According to a statement from the Guyanese government, Guyana retains full discretion to review and reject any individual proposed for relocation, and the U.S. will cover all associated costs. The program is designed for individuals who voluntarily choose to relocate to Guyana. The IOM will manage the operational aspects, including housing, support, and integration services, ensuring access to legal representatives and family members. Guyana will not bear any financial costs, and the IOM will not assume governmental responsibilities related to admission, legal stay, protection, or removal.
