Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated an investigation into apparel manufacturers Hanes and Fruit of the Loom regarding the potential presence of toxic chemicals in materials used for children's undergarments. Civil Investigative Demands have been issued to both companies. The investigation stems from concerns that the rise of fast fashion has led to increased use of cheaper, synthetic materials like polyester, rayon, and spandex, which may involve plastic-derived materials or chemical-intensive manufacturing processes. These processes can include treating materials with extreme heat and various chemicals.
