Severe Weather Causes Damage and Power Outages in Ann Arbor
Severe weather swept through Metro Detroit overnight, causing significant damage and power outages in Ann Arbor and surrounding areas. Tornado warnings were issued for Washtenaw County, followed by Lenawee, Monroe, and Wayne counties, before the storms moved towards Ontario and Lake Erie. The National Weather Service plans to send storm survey teams to verify tornado reports. The Ann Arbor Fire Department responded to over 75 storm-related calls, while the police department handled more than 120 calls. Damage included the collapse of the east wall at Veterans Memorial Park Ice Arena and roof damage at the University of Michigan Yost Ice Arena. Power outages affected thousands, with DTE reporting 15,824 customers without electricity. Flooding was reported on major roads, including I-75 and I-96, leading to closures.
