Colombian Narco-Gang Leader Arrested in Spain Following Seven Deaths in Rival Gang Attack
Jhonatan Alexander Castrillon Arango, known as 'Pirry,' the fugitive leader of the notorious Colombian 'El Mesa' narco-gang, has been apprehended by the Policia Nacional in Salou, Spain. Arango was wanted in connection with the killing of seven people and the serious injury of another during a rival gang attack in June 2024. A reward of €70,000 had been offered for information leading to his capture. He was found hiding in north-east Spain using a fake Venezuelan identity. His location was determined after associates visited various parts of Spain, and Colombian authorities confirmed his presence in Catalunya. Arango attempted to flee by car and resisted arrest before being taken into custody. He was subsequently transferred to the National Court in Madrid for extradition proceedings to Colombia. His criminal record spans over two decades, during which he rose to a leadership position within 'El Mesa' and was involved in drug trafficking to Europe, collaborating with Albanian gangs and Italy’s 'Ndrangheta'...
