Pulitzer-Winning Photographer Marcus Yam Returns to Field After Sabbatical
Marcus Yam, a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, has returned to the field after a two-year sabbatical for recovery from a work-related injury and a year-long Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University. Yam, who has worked for the Los Angeles Times for over 11 years, is now developing, writing, and photographing complex visual stories in a newly conceived hybrid role. His recent work includes a report from Taiwan for The Globe and Mail, focusing on how ordinary citizens are preparing for potential conflict with China. Yam's career has been marked by significant achievements, including winning the 2022 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for his coverage of the U.S. exit from Afghanistan and receiving the Robert Capa Award for his coverage of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
