China-Linked LightSpy Spyware Targets U.S. and Global Devices
Security researchers have identified a Chinese-linked spyware, LightSpy, targeting victims in over a dozen countries, including the United States. Originally discovered in 2018, LightSpy has evolved into a commercial spyware platform used by a single threat actor to target governments, enterprises, and militaries. The spyware can attack various devices, including smartphones, Apple devices, Linux servers, and Windows PCs, stealing sensitive information such as location data, chat messages, and passwords. Researchers have also found that LightSpy can now infect routers, providing hackers access to any device on the same network. This development highlights the growing threat of spyware beyond government-backed hackers to private industry.
