FBI Issues New Wanted Poster for Monica Witt Amidst Iran Tensions
The FBI has released a new wanted poster in Farsi, offering a $200,000 reward for information leading to the capture and prosecution of Monica Witt, a former U.S. Air Force counterintelligence specialist. Witt, who defected to Iran in 2013, is accused of transmitting classified national defense information to the Iranian government. The FBI's renewed efforts to apprehend Witt come amidst ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, with the agency hoping that the current instability in Iran might lead to new information about her whereabouts. Witt, who served in the Air Force from 1997 to 2008, was indicted in 2019 on charges of espionage. The FBI describes her as a white female, 5 feet 6 inches tall, with brown hair and eyes, and aliases including Fatemah Zahra and Narges Witt.
