Ford Recalls 1.4 Million F-150 Trucks Due to Gearshift Issue Affecting Safety
Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 1.4 million F-150 pickup trucks in the United States following an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) into reports of unexpected downshifts. The recall affects model years 2015-2017 equipped with the '6R80' transmission. The issue, potentially caused by electrical connections wearing down due to heat and vibration, can lead to signal loss from the transmission range sensor, resulting in unintended downshifts. Ford has acknowledged two injuries and one accident potentially related to this issue. Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a software update to the powertrain control module (PCM) to remedy the problem.
