Consumer Reports Highlights Health Risks in Common Personal Care Products
A recent investigation by Consumer Reports has revealed that many everyday personal care products, such as shampoos, lotions, deodorants, and makeup, contain chemicals that may pose serious health risks. These include hormone disruption and an increased risk of cancer. Despite a 2022 law mandating that cosmetic companies register their products and ingredients with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), these ingredients are not thoroughly reviewed for safety before reaching consumers. Key ingredients of concern include phthalates, parabens, formaldehyde, PFAS, and coal tar dyes, which are linked to reproductive harm, hormone disruption, and cancer risk. Consumer Reports advises consumers to be vigilant about reading product labels and to opt for items labeled as free from these harmful chemicals.
