Aurora Alert: Stunning Full Halo to Light Up 22 States
A strong Northern Lights display is expected across 22 U.S. states from Monday night into Tuesday, Dec. 9, due to a “full halo event” caused by a coronal mass ejection from the sun. NOAA forecasts a G3 geomagnetic storm between 1–4 a.m. EST, potentially making auroras visible from Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. The event follows recent M8- and X1.1-class solar flares.
